In my studio, with my work I have been thinking a lot about the idea of that pause
between breaths, that place that is eternal that connects us all into an energetically
charged stream of consciousness. The moment between two thoughts in which we
can lay claim to our own soul fire, that ethereal flame that transcends all.

To try and decipher this action in paint, to wear away the edges, the crust in order to
expose some kind of energetic light that awakens within the viewer a moment of
transcendent experience. Through color, movement, symbol, magic and myth
transforming shapes and objects beyond their identification towards that eternal
ethereal flame that generates all meaning. I find the structure that allows for this
discourse, not unlike, I hope, a symphony or opera that compels the viewer to enter
the paintings world. Finding a grace and calm and intense beauty in the marks and
movement of color and, yes, a Tenebrism style of seeing and translating into paint
these philosophical ideas. A constant form of meditation, an awakening
into a deeper meaning that compels a continued investigation.
